Blank Fabric Sample Quilt with Duquesa II

DuquesaII Quilt 2009

I just had to use this fabric in a quilt. Are you kidding, purples and browns. Yummy!!

I of course had to use the line so that it could be a sample to show my shops and I used most of the Duquesa II line and the black comes from another Blank fabric line called Dream Garden by Yolanda Fundora.

I just loved it. I only showed it to a couple of shops and then a shop borrowed it to show and help sell the fabric line. I didn’t mind since I will get it back completely quilted.

The pattern for the blocks comes from the Quilt Sampler Magazine Fall/Winter 2008 issue.

The inner border I designed myself by just playing with the fabrics, getting that light purple piece was the trickiest because it really was the zinger for the quilt, but too much and it really made the quilt look gaudy. I also have to say that once the main part was done, deciding on the borders took me about 2 weeks of just throwing stuff on the design wall and then taking a break and coming back and looking at it with fresh eyes.

I also used the fabric called Feather in the Bali Rain collection for the background and I really love that collection, it just adds even more to the quilt. It provides movement without being to over powering in the quilt. The jewel tones on that collection are wonderful.

I decided on the final black border because I knew that rest of the quilt was already pretty busy and I just wanted to frame it nicely. I picked out lots of black and browns and this is the one that just spoke to the quilt.
