Quilters TV

Just wanted to share this site. It isn’t new but I don’t think it is getting enough attention. I hope they keep adding new video. I also like it because you can see them when you want to. Here is the link to Quilter’s TV .

Guild was great yesterday, we had a guest speaker from Atlanta whose name is Marquetta Bell-Johnson. You can click on her name to see her site and you can read more about her here too. She is very well known to many and has appeared on HGTV as well as being shown in many galleries. I tell you what after seeing her work and seeing how she overcomes being handicapped it makes you realize you have no excuses. You see she quilts with one hand because she has to use her other hand to push down on the sewing machine pedal. Her dyed fabrics are very awesome and I would love to take a class from her in the future. She is very funny as well so listening to her was a joy.

Well I received great news today. My CT scan shows no sign of Cancer, I am hoping that means that now I can get my repair surgery started. The CT scan did show Pansinusitus and that may slow the repair phase up a bit. Thanks for all your prayers everyone, as usual prayer works. Having my nose repaired is going to be a painful process considering most of the top of my nose is gone but hey we can’t have everything. I just Thank God I didn’t lose so much that I would have had to wear a prosthetic nose.

I have been cleaning up my hard drive because I am getting ready to re-partition the main drive by combining 2 partitions, so I have been busy cleaning off one of the partitions. With all the Microsoft updates and programs I use, my main drive is sitting at 500kb.

I did sit and sewed on my applique project while I watched my CSI that I Tivo’d on Thursday. Poor Keppler. what a bizarre twist that was.

I didn’t get to quilt today though but I will have time to do that while my drive is partitioning.
I know that I am going to do an allover flower pattern and some feathers so I can practice doing those too.

Just a couple of quick notes

I fixed the comment problem. Thank you to those that emailed me that you couldn’t see the image with letters. You will now be able to leave comments again. As usual I always read them and check them for spammers before I make them viewable on the website.

Please say a Prayer for the family of Anna Nicole Smith. How tragic for a newborn daughter to have to grow up without her mother. Regardless of how she lived her life, the end is very sad. I pray she receives the comfort from God that she never found in this life. She was a beautiful woman who is a perfect example of how money and fame are not what makes people happy. I am sure she missed her son horribly as I am sure that this had much to do with her early death.

I am off to work on my hand applique today and I may get the quilt on the frame quilted up this evening.  Have a wonderful Friday everyone.

Too much talking, had way too much fun today

Well I was hoping to get a photo up tonight of a partially finished jacket. My friend Chere came over and we had the customary Dunkin Donuts with coffee before we sat down to sew. We got all the fabric precut for the jacket and got some of the pieces sewn as part of step one and that is as far as we got. We had more fun laughing and talking and so sewing wasn’t the main focus. Next thing I knew, it was 1:30. We had a quick lunch and then back to talking, I mean sewing. I hope to work on the jacket more this weekend.
I did sit down this evening and worked on my hand applique project. A few more pieces and I can post that here as well.
I am really looking forward to March, but my big event this year will be Applique on Tampa Bay. Hope to see you there.

Radiant Night and Summer Garden BBQ

My main goal today was getting the house cleaned up, now all that’s left to clean is my sewing room. This poor room is trashed. I have too many piles and I hate it when stuff isn’t put away. I will have to get it cleaned up this week and then I will be happier.

It will have to wait though because my friend Chere is coming over in the morning and we going to make a jacket that we can wear for the Greater Atlanta Shop Hop in March.

In between cleaning and watching my favorite show called “House”, I did get some sewing and prep work done. I got my top from a pattern called BBQ on the quilt frame. Here is a picture of it on the design wall.

I didn’t have the border on it in this picture, I was trying to rehearse which border idea I liked and I ended up just putting a small pieced border on it. Took me 3 days to decide. I just didn’t like anything else.

When it came to this quilt top, less really was better.

Here is a picture of it on the frame.  You can get a look at the final border I decided to put on it.

The pattern I made this from is called BBQ and it is from Debbie Bowles at Maple Island Quilts.  I really liked how easy this went together. I just needed to do something simple and I liked this one as it will give me some area to practice my machine quilting on.
She has a lot of patterns available on her website and I may just do another one of hers later this year.

I really need to get some projects that date as far back as 8 years done. I think every quilter reaches a time where the UFO’s just get under our skin and we have to get some of them done.

My other goal is to use up at least five fabrics before I buy any more. I guess that would be 5 out for every 1 in.  May help me get over this feeling of being a glutton for fabric.

Since I have that on the frame now, the other project I started on was a pattern I bought at the end of summer last year. When I saw it I knew I had to do it.

I was lucky enough that the shop owner gave me the pattern and all I had to buy was the fabric. Sheesh!! more fabric.
At least this will help me get some more out of the way for my goal and I just love this quilt. Here is a picture of what I have done on it so far.

This fabric line also came in other colors and if the Red would have been more vibrant I would have done this with the Red. It was just so dull looking on the bolt.

One of the other things I did this week was I changed my design wall. I had originally had cotton batting on there but it wouldn’t lay flat enough on the wall and it was pieced. So what I did was I put 120” white muslin up and then sprayed that with temporary adhesive. I am really happy with that. I also put a strip across the top so that when the entire top was done I could hang it from that for photos and not have to worry about it pulling on the fabric. I like it much better so far.

I still have been to lazy to scan some photos that were taken at guild and post them here, I will try to get that done later this week.
I hope to have my jacket done tomorrow and I will post that up tomorrow night. I hit Hancock fabrics for the flannel and homespuns that are going to make up the jacket and thought is has a bit more Magenta than I like I really liked the fabrics.
Talk to you all tomorrow.
